The state government has extended the eligibility for birth certificate applications to individuals aged 15 and above until April 4, 2026. This relaxation deviates from the previous rule under the Maharashtra Birth and Death Registration Rules, which restricted applications to individuals under the age of 15.
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has issued a call to citizens without birth certificates to apply for one by providing necessary documents. Applicants will need to provide information such as the time of birth, parents’ names, and birth surname at the birth and death department located at the NMC headquarters.
Citizens are required to submit documents such as a school leaving certificate, original SSC diploma, photocopies, among others, for obtaining birth and death certificates. Currently, these certificates can be acquired from the NMC’s zonal officer overseeing the hospital where the event occurred.
For deaths at home, certificates can be obtained from the zonal office corresponding to the ghat where the last rites were performed. Additionally, corrections in registration can be made at the office where the original record is held. Different regulations apply for birth and death registrations concerning NRIs, late registrations, missing persons, and other cases. For details on these, individuals can consult the NMC’s birth and death department. NMC has also warned citizens against approaching middleman or agents as they can be duped.
