The wholesale Seeds and Grain Merchants Association has hailed the central government’s decision to reduce GST on several items. At the same time the association has urged the government to make branded pulses tax-free. At present branded pulses have been kept at 5% GST slab. The secretary of wholesale seeds and grain merchants Association Pratap Motwani told that pulses must be exempted from GST. He has sent a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in this connection. He also expressed hope that petrol and diesel would be brought under GST before The upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2019. The central government has announced to reduce GST on 26 items from 18% to 12% or 5%. The new rates where announced after the meeting of GST Council.
