A senior police inspector along with two constables were injured when they were hit by a truck while they were discharging their duties near Parsodi on Wardha Road during the New Year bandobast.
The names of the injured were given as senior police inspector Vijay Talware, head constable Sukhdeo Watane (55) and Vyankat Gandhare (32), all attached to the Beltarodi police station and residents of Nagpur.
The incident occurred on the wee hours of Tuesday on Wardha Road, the police sources said, adding the police party was checking vehicles during nakabandi as part of the New Year bandobast. Â The police asked the truck coming towards city on Wardha road to stop. The truck driver Manohar Bhaurao Pache (48), a resident of Shiv Shakti Nagar, Dattawadi lost control of the vehicle and rammed in to the police jeep parked there. So severe was the impact of the hit that a portion of the jeep was completely damaged. Senior PI Talware who was standing besides the jeep sustained serious injuries. The other cops Watane and Gandhare too were injured in the incident and were taken to a private hospital.
The police then arrested truck driver Pache and booked him for rash and negligent driving. Later in the day he was produced in the court and was released on bail. The police are conducting further investigations.
