A case of minor girl being blackmailed for ransom has come to fore under the jurisdiction of Dhantoli police station. The incident came to light after jewellery from her house went missing. The victim is a 14-year-old student of standard ninth.
According to police sources, the episode started on December 9 when an unidentified person clicked her photograph on his mobile phone while she was talking to her classmate on her way home.
The unidentified person then started chasing her and proposed her for marriage. The 20-year-old accused would harass her daily. When the girl did not respond to his advances, he started hurling abuses at her and assaulted her. He demanded money from her and threatened her that he would show the photo to her parents if she failed to meet his demands.
The girl then gave him Rs 500, but the youth’s lust money did not stop here and asked her for jewellery or some other valuable. The girl under fear handed him over two mangalsutras worth Rs 1 lakh. However, the youth continued blackmailing her and threatened to kill her parents. She was under tremendous mental pressure when her parents noticed the ornaments missing from the almirah and asked her about it. Looking at her changed behavior, they were already suspicious. When they enquired with her after taking her into confidence, she narrated the entire incident to them.
Her parents then lodged a complaint with Dhantoli police station on Tuesday. The police have registered an offence under relevant sections and have launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
