The state government is mulling to make mathematics as an optional subject for standard X, against which, students can opt for arts, informed Maharashtra Minister of Education Vinod Tawade. The government is giving a serious thought to the proposal and perhaps it would be implemented in coming two years, he said. If implemented, the students will have the choice to opt mathematics or arts right from standard VIII.
Tawade on Thursday paid a visit to the city and interacted with the students of Hadas High School, Dharampeth High School, Tata Parsi School, Jindal Vidya Mandir, Rajendra Nagar High School, Paranjape High School among other schools. He issued a stern warning of cancellation of approval to the CBSE and ICSE schools those not teaching Marathi.
Talking to the students, Mr Tawade sought to know their problems and issues. He asked the students as to which subjects they liked and sought their suggestions regarding changing the syllabus.
The students also asked questions to the minister, which ranged from the subject he liked the most, to the practical subjects. Some of the students expressed their desire to take education in Marathi medium while others suggested him to bring in changes that would fetch them better career opportunities after completing their SSC and HSC.
Mr Tawade on the occasion appealed to the students to fight against cyber slavery, asking them to observe one day in a week as ‘No Electric Gadget Day. Giving a positive response to the minister’s call the students vowed to observe one such day in a week.
