Union minister for road and surface transport Nitin Gadkari inaugurated a two-day national conference AMELIORATION 2019 on ‘A Greenification long haul – A practice by Industry; Transforming Challenges into Opportunities’ in the city on Thursday. Guardian minister of Nagpur district Chandrashekhar Bawankule was the guest of honour.
Mentioning that the country was facing two major problems of poverty and unemployment, he said one must learn skills to develop skills, knowledge capability as this would help them gain job.
Skills, potential, hard work and ability to generate new ideas are the key to success in any field, Gadkari said. The students of hotel management have better prospects in the job market compared to BA and B.Com, he said.
A number of health disorders are occurring due to pollution of air and water and there is a need to curb it, Gadkari said, adding we must convert waste into wealth that will help to maintain the ecological balance and ultimately check air and water pollution. However, it is not the duty of government alone, every citizen must contribute for the cause, he exhorted.
An air boat is being launched in Nagpur with help of guardian minister Bawankule, whose plant is in Koradi, Gadkari informed. Further a cruise is being launched in Mumbai, which will have 26 restaurants, which will create huge employment.
Keynote speaker Steve Borgia, chairman and managing director, INDeco Leisur Hotels spoke about doing big, sustainable and responsible tourism business to mend the rural backbone.
He said one should have ambition as there is no alternative to it. He said it is hi time for the second tourism revolution.
Dr Nitin Labshetwar, professor at NEERI spoke about air pollution and ways to control it. He also spoke about global warming and measures to deal with the issue.
Manoj Bali from Radisson Blu, Nagpur spoke about effective use of recycled material
Sushil Verma, vice-president, Dinshaws group also spoke about the challenges before the environment.
Former Union minister Sushilkumar Shinde, who attended the breaking out session, spoke about the know-how of greenefication and how it is affecting our country.
The conference was a meeting of students, faculties and industry experts working in the field of hospitality and leading towards the greenification of the ecosystem.
The day ended with a cultural programme depicting earth, five elements of the environment and their exploitation.
M S Tuli, chairman of the college and Dr Urvashi Yashroy, director were also present at the programme.
