The Headquarters Maintenance Command, IAF, Nagpur will be celebrating
Armed Forces Veterans Day at Urvashi Auditorium, Vayusena Nagar, Nagpur, on January 14.
A number of events have been organised to mark the occasion, which includes health check-up camp, dental camp, ECHS, redressal of pension grievances, re-settlement of avenues among others.
All the Ex-servicemen, widows of the Indian Armed Forces have been invited to the programme, which will begin at 10 am. Transport facility will be provided from Sitabuldi bus stand and Nagpur railway station from 8 am. The Unit Run Canteen will be exclusively open for Ex-servicemen from 12 noon to 3.30 pm everyday from January 14 to 19th.
January 14 is celebrated as Armed Forces Veterans’ Day every year as a mark of respect and recognition to the services rendered by Field Marshal K M Carriappa OBE, the First Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, who led the Indian Forces to victory in the 1947 war and retired on Jan 14, 1953.
Field Marshal Carriappa founded the Indian Ex-Servicemen’s league in 1964. He was also instrumental in setting up the Directorate of Resettlement (later Directorate General Resettlement) an inter-service organisation under the Department of Ex-servicemen welfare, Ministry of Defence that looks after various issues of retired soldiers.
Commemorating Veterans’ Day every year is an initiative to acknowledge and honour the selfless devotion and sacrifice by our veterans, who have served the nation during their prime years and continue to do so in various capacities.
