The 31st Maharashtra State Police Games will begin in the city from Sunday at Police Line Takli ground. This was informed by Dr. Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay while addressing a press conference at Police Gymkhana, Civil Lines, in the city on Friday.
The city is hosting the prestigious games after 2012.
He said total 16 games including judo, kho-kho, kabaddi, volleyball, basketball, boxing, weightlifting, athletics, wrestling, wushu, cross country, Taekwon-Do, hockey football, handball, shooting and walking for men will be organised while sports events like judo, kho kho, kabaddi, volleyball, basketball, boxing, weightlifting, athletics, wrestling, wushu, cross country, and Taekwon-Do will be organised for women.
Total 13Â teams from Amravati, Aurangabad, and Nanded, Nashik, Kolhapur, Nagpur, Railway, SRPF, Navi Mumbai/Konkan, Mumbai city, Pune city, Nagpur city, and Thane and Directorate of training will participate in the meet. Each team comprises maximum 164 men and 74Â women players. Total 1985 men and 819 women players will participate in the meet.
The overall winner in the men’s and women’s categories will get trophies while best male and female players will be awarded a Hero bike and moped respectively. Dr. Upadhyay said last year the games were conducted at Navi Mumbai where SRPF emerged overall champions.
Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis will formally inaugurate the meet on January 16 at Shivaji Stadium, Police Line Takli at 4 p.m. while Governor Vidyasagar Rao will grace the concluding function on January 18 at 4 p.m.a at the same venue.
Joint commissioner of police Ravindra Kadam, additional commissioner of police; D G Gaikar, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Zone 1; Vivek Mhasal, DCP Zone II; Chinmay Pandit, DCP Zone III; Rahul Maknikar, DCP Zone V, Harish Potdar, DCP (Crime); Sambhaji Kadam, DCP (Headquarters);Â Gajanan Rajmane and other officials were also present at the press conference.
