The five-day INSPIRE Internship camp underway at Shivaji Science College, Nagpur attracted a large number of students on the third day on Wednesday.
The camp sponsored by Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi is proving beneficial to the students as senior scientist and researchers of national and international repute are enlightening them with new knowledge and information.
The third day of the camp began with talk of Dr K B Gopalam, Science Communicator, Hyderabad. He delivered lecture on “Great Idea of Biologyâ€. He said, “Biology is no longer the study of genera and species. â€Â Dr Gopalam urged students to have curious and seeking mind set for innovative ideas. He enlightened on cell theory, gene theory, evolution and self-organization. One finds beginning of research in the questions posed by intuitive minds. Solution or understanding of the problems is the part of research methodology. Mrs. Anupama Mendhe introduced Dr Gopalam, while Dr J K Keche felicitated him with shawl, shrifal and memento.
The second speaker was Dr Vikas Gupta, Head, Department of Biotechnology, DAV College, Amritsar (Punjab) spoke on “Biomimicry: Innovations inspired by natureâ€. He interacted with the students on the present day challenges and new biology by asking different questions.
Samta Deshmukh introduced the Dr Gupta while Pramod Gharpure felicitated him with shawl, shrifal and memento.
In the afternoon session participants visited Raman Science Centre where they witnessed a number of scientific experiments based on scientific concepts.
