BSNL has been threatened by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) to cut the power connection of BSNL telephone and mobile towers if the due electricity bills, are not paid within a week’s time.
According to the sources, even after receiving notices from MSEDCL, BSNL did not pay any heed and has been ignoring to do the bill payment for quite a time. MSEDCL is adamant to take a firm action against the ignorant behavior of BSNL. The power supply of Kanhan and Gondia telephone exchanges have been snapped, which resulted in the power failure of many mobile towers.
Since last four days, the internet and the telephone services related to BSNL exchanges has been stopped. However, BSNL’s PGM, A K Vajpayee and DGM Madhuri Nimje have requested Energy Minister, Chandrashekhar Bawankule for some relief. Considering the situation, Energy Minister has arranged a meeting, which was held in Mumbai at MSEDCL Headquarters.
Concluding decision of the meeting was that, if BSNL fails to give, a bank guarantee or a post dated cheque to MSDECL within the given time span of 7 days, the connections will be snapped again at the local level without giving any prior permission from BSNL headquarters, sources added.
According to the information available, it will be difficult for BSNL to pay the bills before the end of the grace time period, as they were not getting enough funds from its headquarters.
