Noted journalist and economist, Arun Shouri today lamented that the credibility of media was falling down and the government was
using sedition law to terrorize which was unjust and misuse of the provision. The media was not playing its role of watch dog not out of fear but due to allurements, he said.
Speaking at a journalism award function, here today, Shouri said editors are also at fault for not carrying investigative stories but suppressing and thus depriving the readers of valuable information.Media is not more a watch dog if bones are put in dog’s mouth how can it open and bark, he questioned.
Media must talk truth and talk to people If a particular newspaper is not interested in certain facts about a story, journalists should quietly pass on the same information to other media house which may be interested and publish.
Later talking to reporters, Shouri said today the English daily The Hindu has again exposed the murky deal of Rafale fighter jets
being procured from France.I congratulate The HIndu for wrting the wonderful report, he said adding earlier reports that Defence Minister
Manohar Parrikar was not aware of the deal signed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in one to one discussion, have proved correct.
Parrikar was inaugurating Fish Festival in Goa when the deal was signed in Paris and his reaction was I support the deal which
means he was not part of the negotiations. The Defence Negotiating Committee members were also
not aware of any such development. To a question, Shouri said even though the
Supreme Court has rejected a petition on Rafale deal but we, Advocate Prashant Bhusahn, former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha and himself had
filed a review petition which will come up soon.
