The tribal community has got ancient culture along with brave history. In the modern times, the community has achieved success on its skills and caliber. However, while achieving success, it is necessary to preserve the ancient culture. To make the coming generation aware of the glorious history, the Adivasi Mahotsav has been organised, said Mayor Nanda Jichkar.
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has organised Adivasi Mahotsav at Futala Lake area with a view to preserve the traditional tribal culture. Ms Jichkar was delivering the presidential address at the inaugural function of the Adivasi Mahotsav.
President, National Scheduled Tribe Commission; Nandkumar Shay was the chief guest while MLA Sudhakar Deshmukh, member of National Scheduled Tribe Commission Maya Iwnate, Harikrishna Damod, Leader of Ruling Party in NMC Sandeep Joshi, Deputy Leader Varsha Thakre, corporators Sandeep Jadhav, Rutika Masram, Gond Rajmata Rajshreedevi Uike, Shivani Dani, Digambar Chouhan and Mr Panjwani were seated on the dais.
Speaking further, Ms Jichkar said today the tribals have achieved respectable position in different sectors. The community’s bravery lessons in history also need to be taken to the people and these kind of festivals help in achieving that goal, she said. Every community member should come forward to promote his rich culture, she exhorted.
Mr Shay in his inaugural speech said, the tribal brethren have sacrificed for the country in large numbers, however, their contributions have not been truly recognized. The National Scheduled Tribe Commission is striving to get proper honour to those sacrificed for the nation and re-write the lost pages of the history.
