Arangetram is a dancer’s debut performance where she steps on the stage for her first solo performance.
It was a treat for dance lovers as Palaq Agrawal performed some of the traditional dance items in her Bharatanatyam arangetram organised at Dr Vasantrao Deshpande Hall on Sunday.
Palaq has learnt Bharatanatyam from city based dance gurus, Dr Kishoree and Kishor Hampiholi.
She began her performance with ‘Thodaya Mangalam’; set is raga malika and tala malika.
The performance was followed by a Jathiswaram. Abhinaya or expressions were introduced on stage with Tillai Amabalam, Shabdam.
The center piece of the arangetram was Varnam, a 45 minute performance. Varnam ananda bhairavi a composition by Rukmini Devi Arundale was followed by a keerthanam.
Keerthanam was followed by padam.
What caught everyone’s attention was an abhanga by Sant Bhanudas Vrindavani Venu in Marathi. At the end she performed a thillana which depicts the end of the traditional margam or repertoire.
The ensemble that accompanied Palaq were, eminent singer Natya Sangeet Kala Bharathi Shri K Hariprasad from Chennai on vocals, Sanjay Sasidharan from Pune on flute, Vishnu Das from Mumbai on violin and Ellappa alias Yashwant Hampiholi from Nagpur on Mridangam.
Palaq, daughter of Preeti and Anup Agrawal was accompanied on Natuvangam by her gurus.
Guests during the event were director, Meera Nritya Niketan, Guru Kalashiromani Meera Chandrashekharan and journalist, The Hitavada, Asawari Shenolikar.
Compering during arangetram was done by, Shubhangi Rayalu, Kamakshi Hampiholi and Drea Agrawal.
