Inspection of Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety team left
Even as Maha Metro Nagpur readies up for launch of its much-awaited services, it has bagged a majority of permissions – essential to start the operations – from either Railway Board or Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO). With RDSO and Railway Board approving major proposals, Maha Metro now awaits clearance from Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS).
Till date, Maha Metro has bagged four major certificates, which would facilitate launch of services till Sitabuldi Interchange on Reach-I and between Subhash Nagar and Lokmanya Nagar Metro Stations on Reach-III. These permissions mean that Maha Metro can now launch operations.
One of the major approval comes in the form of Provisional Speed Certificate of Maha Metro train set. As per this approval, train can operate upto a maximum speed of 25 km per hour on the Up and Down tracks on a stretch of 5.36 km, from Lokmanya Nagar to Subhash Nagar in Reach-III by RDSO.
Apart from getting Provisional Speed Certificate, Maha Metro also got Technical approval for Nagpur Metro’s 25 KV AC Traction, Power Supply and SCADA system for East–West and North–South corridors. This proposal has been cleared by Railway Board, Ministry of Railways.
In addition, Interim Speed Certificate for operation of Standard Gauge Nagpur metro project coaches at secondary stage upto a maximum speed of 80 kmph over on Khapri–Airport South Station section of North–South Corridor has also been awarded to Maha Metro Nagpur.
Lastly, Speed Certificate for conducting preliminary oscillation trials at a speed of 45 kmph and Emergency Braking Distance (EBD) trials at a speed of 40 kmph on Up and Down tracks of Khapri Station to Congress Nagar of Reach–I section with the coaches manufactured by CRRC has also been received by Maha Metro Nagpur.
Thus, a majority of the permissions required for launch of services of Nagpur Metro Project have been completed. The Provisional Speed Certificate, Technical Approval for Various Features, Interim Speed Certificate & Speed Certificate for 80 and 40 km respectively are very important in nature. It also implies that majority of the tasks have already been accomplished by the Organisation.
Only tests related to Metro Stations remain now. The Oscillation Trials are being conducted along two stretches of Reach-I and Reach-III. With tests on just two aspects remaining to be completed, Maha Metro Nagpur awaits inspection of Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) team. With Railway Board and RDSO clearing majority of the issues, stage is set for CMRS visit and inspection.
