Crack down on 7500 offenders in Vidarbha region
Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) in its drive against the power theft carried out action against 7500 offenders in Vidarbha region during the last 10 months recovering a whopping amount of Rs 16.33 crore as penalty from them. The State-run power destruction company registered 313 offences in Nagpur, Chandrapur, Gondia, Akola and Amravati divisions.
MSEDCL ran the campaign from April 2018 to January 2019 in all the districts of Vidarbha where highest 147 power theft cases were detected in Akola division. Similarly, 71 offences were registered in Nagpur division, 34 in Buldana, 10 in Gondia, 13 in Bhandara, 3 in Washim and 16 in Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts, informs a press release issued by MSEDCL.
As many as 6,892 cases of tampering with meters were detected in the region with highest 1,596 in Nagpur district, 845in Yavatmal and lowest of 260 in Gadchiroli.
The MSEDCL recovered an amount of Rs 14.85 crore towards electricity bills and charges. Akola district recorded 835 cases of meter tampering; Buldana 588, Amravati 626, Chandrapur 345, Bhandara 318, Gondia 409, Nagpur city 279 and Wardha district recorded 522 cases.
Further, the MSEDCL officials detected 665 cases of discrepancies in power usage where 1.5 lakh of power theft was detected. This included highest 94 in Amravati Nagpur followed by 90 in Nagpur district with lowest 14 in Washim district. Similarly, 65 cases were detected in Akola, 33 in Buldana, 60 in Yavatmal 44 in Gadchiroli, 30 in Bhandara, 70 in Chandrapur, 68 in Nagpur city, and 73 in Wardha district.
MSEDCL administration will be taking a serious note of meter tampering incidents and run a special campaign to prevent power theft in the region. Instructions to this effect have been given to the concerned divisions, informed Incharge Regional Director Dilip Ghugal.
