The district FIDE rating chess tournament organised by Jai Sai Welfare Association, at Kamgar Kalyan Mandal Hall, Raghuji Nagar began on Monday.
All the seeded players had smooth sailing on the opening day of the tournament. Top seed Shubham Lakudkar outclassed Bhavik Chaudhary on the top board to share the lead with several other seeded players with two points each.
Second seed Saurabh Lokhande, Mayur Shelke, Vijay Thakur, Rujul Shinde, Yashwant Shamkuwar, Nilesh Wasnik and Addhyay Damke also recorded two wins in a day. .
Earlier, former MLA Mohan Mate inaugurated the tourney by making a move on the chess board. Tournament organising Secretary, Sushant Jumde, Nagpur District Chess Association Joint Secretary, Umesh Panbude, along with Arun Kapse, Ramdas Selokar, Deepak Chavan, Sachin Wanjari, Swati Kumbhalkar, Shubham Soni, Amit Tembhurne, Shamsundar Agrawal and Jitendra Wanjari were prominently present on the occasion.
