Laying stress on cleanliness, the South Eastern Central Railway (SECR) administration has installed 3,567 bio toilets in 964 passenger coaches.
The railway administration has been always concerned about cleanliness and taking steps from time to time. The conventional toilets would often make the tracks and platform dirty.
To get rid of the problem, the railway administration with the help of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) developed the bio toilet. This bio toilet is environment friendly. This bio toilet converts human waste into harmless water and gas in six-eight hours and gets easily dissolved into the atmosphere. After successful results of the toilets installed earlier, the SECR administration has set a target of installing the bio toilets in all the coaches by this month end. The cost incurred for installation of one toilet is Rs 75,000.
SECR administration has appealed to the passengers not to dump paper cups, empty water bottles, plastic pouches, polyethylene and diapers into the toilet and co-operate for its effective functioning.
