Mayor Innovation Award winners honoured
Any innovation if successful and if useful for a large section of the society then it is incomparable research. It is a knowledge, its successful implementation is a national treasure, said Union Minister for Transport and Shipping Nitin Gadkari. He was speaking at the Mayor Innovation award distribution function.
The function jointly organised by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Mayor’s Innovation Council and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited and held Kavivarya Suresh Bhatt Auditorium. Mayor Ms Nanda Jichkar chaired the programme. Rajya Sabha member Dr Vikas Mahatme, MLAs Vikas Kumbhare, Dr Milind Mane, Deputy Mayor Deepraj Pardikar, Leader of Ruling party in NMC Sandeep Joshi, leader of opposition Tanaji Wanve, BSP leader Mohammad Jamal, Convenor; Mayor Innovation Awards; Dr Prashant Kadu, Chief Co-ordinator Ketan Mohitkar, Additional Municipal Commissioner Ram Joshi, Deputy Commissioner Nitin Kapadnis, senior corporator Sunil Agrawal, Rupa Roy, Nishant Gandhi and Sunil Hiranwar were seated on the dais.
Speaking further, Gadkari said every individual has zeal to do something innovative, what is needs is encouragement. Ms Jichkar thorough Mayor Innovation Award has provided a same platform for which she deserves appreciation.
Jichkar in her speech spoke about the successful journey of Mayor Innovation Award. The concept of award was present while finding solution to the problems in providing basic amenities as local governing body, she said. The concept being implemented for the first time in the country evoked overwhelming response from the Nagpurians and participation of local residents in the development process was experienced, she said.
Dr Kadu informed about the objective behind the venture. Nitin Kapadnis said the project would be implemented every year and for the purpose a provision of Rs 1 crore has been made in the NMC budget, he informed.
Earlier, Gadkari lighted the traditional lamp to inaugurate the programme and distributed mementos, certificates and cash prize to first three best ideas of each group of the contest.
Similarly, 100 contestants presenting their ideas under Hackathon were felicitated on the occasion along with 50 Nagpurians for their outstanding works in different fields. A book Jaivvividhata was released at the hands of the dignitaries. Â Renuka Deshkar and RJ Rajan conducted the programme.
