Reminscent of Bollywood blockbuster ‘Munnabhai MBBS’, Jaripatka police have busted a gang of touts and the impostors who used to appear and wrote the exam for the students of Std X and XII during the board examinations conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary Higher Secondary Education.
According to sources, the accused were nabbed a team of Jaripatka police conducted a raid at Jaripatka near Bhim square. Police had recovered original answer sheets, bar code and fake admit card of exam centres.
Police had received a tip-off about the racket, following which a team of Jaripatka police laid a trap at Bhim square. In the meantime, they found four suspects. They were caught by the cops. During interrogation, they spilled the beans.
Those arrested included – Atul alias Guddu Shivmohan Awasthi, a resident of Kapil Nagar, Chandrakant alias Chandu Nilkanth Mate, who used to reside at a rented house in Mankapur area, Aman Mukesh Motghare, a resident of Indora and a juvenile.
Police have recovered answer sheets from them. The police have not yet ruled out role of board officials. The accused used to paste photographs of touts and impostors in place of the candidate. These touts and impostors had appeared and wrote papers for the students in Std X and Std XII board exams.
All the accused were produced before a court which sent them to police custodial remand till March 16.
The incident has created furore in the Nagpur division of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. Divisional chairman Ravikant Deshpande had confirmed the development and said that Jaripatka police had informed him about the racket. He however, did not explain how the accused got answer sheets and bar codes. The board has not yet announced departmental probe.
