While tussle was going on between leaders – a local Shiv Sena leader and another leader from Nagpur who joined the party a month back- for the Congress ticket from Chandrapur Lok Sabha constituency, on Thursday suddenly name of former MP and former Union minister Vilasrao Muttemwar was being discussed for the same.
The reason for Muttemwar’s name being considered is his old association with Chandrapur. He is a stalwart in the Congress camp. Besides, he has contested the Lok Sabha elections for five times from Chimur constituency consecutively winning in 1980 and 1984. Though he was defeated in 1989, he again emerged victorious in 1991. He has roots in Chandrapur district and once he was very active leader in the district and therefore his name is making the rounds for the 2019 general elections, sources said.
It may be mentioned that two groups are already camping in New Delhi to stake claim for the ticket from Chandrapur Lok Sabha constituency. In this backdrop, Muttemwar has emerged as a third alternative, sources said. All eyes are now set on the party high command as to what decision do they take and who gets the go ahead from the party to jump into the election arena.
