As many as 19,216 students filled online applications under the Right to Education (RTE) for admissions for the 25 per cent reserved seats. The last date for filing the application is March 22 and there is a possibility that the date would be extended.
This has worried the parents. With the increased number of applications, the students will have to face tough competition to get admission in the schools of their choice. There are total 675 schools registered under RTE having 7,256 seats. According to information received from the Education Department, the maximum number of applications have been received are for nursery and Standard I. Of the total applications received, 30 per cent are for nursery, 60 per cent for Standard I and remaining for KG II.
Still a large number of parents have not been able to file the applications. Looking into this the Education Department is giving a serious thought to extend the date till March 30. If this happens, the competition for admissions under RTE will get tough. The decision for admission to the students under RTE will be decided through lottery system, said officials in Education Department.
