The SST posted at Satnur/Kewalvad RTO checkpost had recovered `80 lakh in cash from two vehicles. According to sources, the cash has been handed over to the income tax department which is further investigating into the case.
The SST stopped a four-wheeler bearing registration number MH 49VB 0801 for routine checking on Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra border on Friday around 2.30 pm. During inspection, they found  ₹ 30 lakh inside the car. An hour later, another car (MH 31AG 6961) was intercepted and cash worth  ₹ 50 lakh was seized.
It is learnt that the occupants of the both the car could not provide satisfactory reply to the queries raised by the revenue officials. Both the cases were handed over to the Income Tax department for further investigation.
It is pertinent to note here that surveillance has been increased on inter-state borders in the wake of upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Efforts have been made to check the flow of unaccounted cash to lure voters.
