For over three months, sanitation workers at Super Speciality Hospital (SSH) have been running from pillar to post for their rightful salaries as they have not been paid a single penny since December as the administration has not sanctioned the salary.
It may be noted here that there are two companies; Abhijeet group and Krystal whose workers are currently deployed at the medical. Abhijeet’s workers basically do the attendant job, whereas the contractual workers posted by Krystal are engaged in the sanitation of hospital, wards, operation theatre etc.
However, after the continuos appeal to the authorities and company (Krystal), the civic workers at Trauma Care Centre got the salary, that too on March 7.
The workers at SSH elaborate their suffering by explaining the trauma they are facing. One among them said that situation has become almost unbearable for him.
“I could not explain my suffering. I am compelled to borrow money from my aunts, friends etc. Many of us are the only bread-earner in respective family. We do not have sound education background to leave this job for a better option. That is why we have been continuing the service even without getting a pay since Decemberâ€, said the worker.
Sources told that some of the workers at SSH left the job. There are nearly 30-35 sanitation workers deployed at SSH, but due to the non-payment of salary, only 7-8 are currently working.
An official source said that the financial problem emerges everytime during this period. “It’s all because of the grant issued to government takes time. Even a few months back, when similar issue appeared, the administration had no option but to pay the workers from the fund allotted for other purpose. Usually, after the new budget, fresh grant for salary is proposed before the ministry by GMCH. This may be the reason why everytime after the budget, salary crisis occursâ€, said the person.
