Nagpur Obstetrics and Gynecological Society in collusion with Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Centre, Nagpur had recently organised a public forum on Sickle Cell and Thalassemia disease was organized at Hotel Centre Point, Ramdaspeth. The patients and their guardians were provided guidance by Gynecologist, Pediatrician and Hematologist.
Chief Guest of the programme was Mayor Nanda Jichkar. President of Nagpur Obstetrics and Gynecological Society Dr. Kanchan Sortey, Director of Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Centre Dr. Vinky Rughwani, Secretary of Nagpur Organic Association Dr. Sushma Deshmukh, Former Dean of Indira Gandhi Medical College Dr. Anuradha Shrikhande, Dr. Neelam Chached and Dr. Neelam Puniyani and Dr. Nishad Dhakate graced the dais.
The programme commenced by lighting the traditional lamp. Introductory speech was delivered by Dr. Kanchan Sortey, whereas Dr. Vinky Rughwani presented the Power Point Presentation of the programme. Mayor Nanda Jichkar, lauded the efforts taken by Nagpur Obstetrics and Gynecological Society and emphasised that such forums are beneficial for the patients.
After the inauguration the specialists guided the Thalassemia and Sickle Cell patients and answered their queries. Dr. Vinky Rughwani during his Power Point Presentation stressed on mandatory Pre-marriage Thalassemia and Sickle Cell detection tests. Dr. Kanchan Sortey emphasised on the spread of information of Thalassemia and Sickle Cell amongst the masses by the youths and assured support to the NGO in future. She explained about the complications in pregnancy in Sickle Cell disease.
Dr. Sushma Deshmukh stressed on the precautions to be taken by Thalassemia and Sickle Cell women patients. Dr. Neelam Chached urged for CVS Test of both husband and wife possesses the traits. Dr. Anuradha Shrikhande spoke on the facilities provided by Government to Thalassemia and Sickle Cell patients. Dr. Nishad Dhakate explained about the importance of Bone Marrow Transplantation in Sickle Cell disease. Dr. Neelam Puniyani moderated the panel. Dr. Sushma Deshmukh proposed vote of thanks.
