The general body meeting of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) held at Raje Raghuji Bhosale Nagar Bhavan (Town Hall) on Wednesday elected eight members of Standing Committee. Mayor Nanda Jichkar presided over the meeting.
Leader of Ruling Party Sandeep Joshi recommended seven names in a closed envelope while Leader of Opposition Tanaji Vanve proposed one name on behalf of Indian National Congress. The Mayor then announced the names of the newly-elected members which are as follows:Â Lakhan Yerawar (BJP), Vijay Chutele (BJP), Shraddha Pathak (BJP), Vaishali Rohankar (BJP), Varsha Thakre (BJP), Snehal Bihare (BJP), Niranjana Patil (BJP) and Jishan Mumtaz Mohammed Irfan (Congress).
The seats had fallen vacant following resignation of the members of Standing Committee. A meeting was organised under Municipal Corporation Act 23 to elect members to fill up these positions. In the meeting held last month, Pradip Pohane along with eight others were already elected on the Standing Committee.
Meanwhile, Mayor Jichkar appealed to the people to celebrate environment friendly Holi. She asked the people to use natural colour, avoid use of water and play dry holi.
