International medal winner Paramjeet Kumar of Punjab and Manpreet Kaur bagged gold medals in the men’s and women’s categories respectively in 17th Senior and 12th Junior Para Powerlifting Championship organised under the auspices of Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) at Subhedar Hall, here on Saturday.
In all 170 men and women powerlifting from 16 State of India are participating in two-day event.
In men’s 49 kg section, bronze medal winner at Jakarta Asian Para Powerlifting Championship Paramjeet lifted total weight of 140 and surpassed Arjuna awardee Farman Basha who finished second lifting 137 kg weight.
In women 41 kg section, Asian Powerlifting Championship bronze medalist Punjab’s Manpreet Kaur lifted 70 kg weight and won gold. Manpreet who has been trained under the guidance of Rajindersingh Rahelu at SAI Gandhinagar surpassed Shalaka Bidkar and Khushbu Ganatra of Maharashtra.
Earlier CMD of WCL Rajiv Ranjan Mishra inaugurated the meet in the presence of acting director of Department of Sports and Physical Education of Prof. Atmaran Pande, chairman of Radhakrishna Hospital Govind Poddar, international referee Leo Peter, Arjuna awardee Vijay Munnishwar and senior sports journaist Kishor Bagde were present on the occasion. After guests lighting traditional lamp, former international power lifter Latika Lekurwale cut the ribbon to inaugurate the meet.
