The figure of seeking admissions under Right to Education (RTE), where 25 per cent seats are reserved for poor and downtrodden class, crossed 25,000 mark. Till Tuesday, a total of 25,010 online applications were filed under RTE, which is the highest figure during the last four years.
With the extension of date, the online application process will continue till March 30. The Education Department hopes that the figure would cross 28,000 by the last day. If this happens, the students seeking admissions in the choice of their schools will have to face tough competition.
It may be mentioned that there are 675 schools registered under RTE in the city, which have the capacity to admit 6,861 students in Std I, 77 students in KGII and 254 students in Nursery. The decision to select the students for the admission will be taken through lottery, informed Education Department officials. The date of lottery will be decided after the last date of filing of application forms and the parents will be informed through SMS, the Education Department officials informed further.
