Moving one step forward, the India Meteorological Department, Nagpur has planned to begin weather forecast at Tehsil level soon, which earlier was restricted to district level. It is designed with an objective to extend support to the farming community with accurate weather findings at tehsil level. The announcement was made by Dy director of meteorology and scientist ML Sahu during a workshop organised for media persons, on March 28.
Sahu said that the farmer community was demanding for a Tehsil level weather forecast for a long time.
“It is to be noted that till now the forecast is done at district level but the farmers were not satisfied with this. When the forecast will start at Tehsil level, it will become more precise and helpful for them to predict their farming patternâ€, said Sahu.
“Weather forecasts can be used to ensure that fertilizer is applied at the right conditions. When there is no possibility of rain, farmers can use the fertilizers so that it doesn’t wash away (which would create a waste of resources and money) but moist enough so that it gets worked into the soil.â€
Noted that a workshop on ‘weather forecast and its dissemination and outreach for media patterns’ was organised on Thursday at doppler weather radar, airport.
The introduction of new technology in Met department has bring revolution, said the experts who had come to attend the workshop.
Experts who were present at the programme were general manager Yudhisthir Sahoo, Gauri Marathe, JR Prasad, Ravindra Akre, Shailaja Wagh and others.
