Priyanshu Patil won the title in the rapid chess tournament organised by Nagpur District Chess Association in association with Dhanwate National College at NDCA Hall, DNC Sports complex, Congress Nagar, here on Sunday.
At the end of last round both Patil and Kush Wairagade were tied at seven points each. However on the basis of tie-breaker, Patil was declared winner whereas Wairagade finished runners-up. AGM Shivasubramanian had to be satisfied with third spot.
In the eighth and last round, Wairagade stunned Shivasubramanian R on top board. On second board, Patil outclassed Parth Lonkar whereas Manthan Kale defeated Shivam Sirsikar. The prizes were distributed at the hands of NDCA secretary K K Barat. The other dignitaries present on the occasion were chief arbiter Pravin Pantawane and assistant arbiter Shrikant Bagde.
The top two players will represent Nagpur district in forthcoming State tournament to be held at Mumbai on April 13 and 14.
