You’ve just booked a vacation to your favorite destination, and been shopping for a whole new holiday wardrobe, and the excitement cannot be contained. We get it! But taking long distance flights also entail a lot of planning. You are always between a rock and a hard place when it comes to packing what and how much. Amidst all this, what often takes a backseat is the skin care. While it is of paramount importance, we often take it for granted. But here’s the bad news, cabin pressure, re-cycled air and lack of oxygen inside the airplane can wreak havoc on your skin, making it prone to dehydration, increased sensitivity, lack of radiance, and before you even know it- dreadful breakouts.
So instead of counteracting the damage later on, why not pack some essentials in your hang luggage which you can use before, during and after the flight to maintain the glow and keep goodness of your skin intact.
1. Remove all your makeup
The biggest mistake we do is travel with the makeup on and it is a big NO. You must remove all your makeup as soon as you board the plane, ideally with an oil cleanser so as to nourish and deep clean at the same time. Oil cleanser will not only lend the required oil needed for your skin in an otherwise dry plane ambience, it also retains the natural oils of your face and prevents it from getting dry and flaky.
2. Mist for moisture
Nothing like spritzing some fragrant rose water on your face at regular intervals, and even more when your skin may be deprived of the required hydration and moisture.Apart from maintaining hydration, these mist sprays awaken your skin, leaving your skin super moist and dewy. They smell heavenly too.
3. Nourish with oil
Applying a nourishing face oil all over your face, eyes, décolletage, lips, and cuticles to keep your skin moist and supple.
4. Apply a calming balm or a rich cream
For those long flights, apply balm or a rich rejuvenating cream night cream to lock in the moisture and protect your skin from the dry, air conditioned cabin air. And if you have an oily skin and you’re prone to blemishes, then apply a good serum before counting those zzzsss.
5. Drink lots of water and herbal tea
Swap booze and coffee for herbal tea and water. Keeping yourself well hydrated in long flights is a must. You should also avoid salty and sodium infused airplane food, as this only encourages water retention and puffiness. And if you’re prone to swelling, apply a body oil that stimulates blood circulation.
6. Adjust your skincare according to the destination
Very important! If you’re travelling to cold or extreme cold places, then swap your gel cleanser with an oil cleanser and apply a nourishing antioxidant serum. Even in the coldest of places, do not forget your sunscreen. It is essential even in the winters. For a warm, more humid temperatures use a gel cleanser with a light weight serum under your SPF moisturizer. Water based spray-on sunscreen in hot weather with a hydrating spritzer is also a great option.
7. Get good sleep
Super important! Sleep is essential to maintain a great complexion, so spoil yourself to some good and well deserved sleep. Invest in good quality silk sleep mask- a bright pink won’t be a bad idea at all.
Say b-bye to the jet-lagged skin and embrace the new hydrated, plum and brightened skin. Get off that plane looking like a diva!
