A clerk posted at Babhulgaon Panchayat Samiti was arrested by the police for allegedly stealing a mangulsutra. During interrogation, he confessed to stealing four mangalsutra. Cops have also recovered 37-gram gold from his house.
The accused Darshan Subhash Patil, 31, a resident of Lohara village in Yavatmal district, was also entrusted with election duty for the first phase of polling set to be held on April 11. However, Patil has been arrested just three days before the election.
Police said four mangalsutras were stolen from Dardanagar, Kolhe Layout, Bharti Apartment, Ayodhyanagar in the city over the last few days.
The Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Yavatmal police was investigating into the case. In the meantime, they caught Darshan Patil on the basis of suspicion. When asked, he gave wrong address. However, cops did not let him go and took him to the address provided by him to police.
When cops talked to locals of that area they informed that Darshan is not a resident of that locality. Cops then detained him and during interrogation he spilled the beans.
He own a bike whose registration number is MH 29 AJ 989, however, on the number it was written in a way that it read 999.
