Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Nagpur Regional Centre celebrated 128th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar with an expert talk on the “Multidimensional Intelligence of Babasaheb Ambedkar†by Dr. Devidas Maske, Retd. Professor, VNIT and Principal, Nagarjuna Institute, Naglok.
In his welcome address Dr. P. Sivaswaroop, Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre Nagpur said that Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar throughout his life emphasized on importance of Education in the lives of weaker sections of the Society. Through education, he believed that the individual will get internal strength and confidence and will roar like a lion. Dr. Sivaswaroop further said that IGNOU is focusing in this direction to provide educational opportunity to the deprived sections of the society through Gyan Ganga Awareness Meetings. These sections are explained about the flexible study system of IGNOU like they can study at their own place and self study, no need to discontinue their daily routine, continue their earning and also learn. For the convenience of these sections of people, IGNOU has opened Special Study Centres in their vicinity like Prison Centres, for Tribals etc.
Dr. Devidas Maske in his talk explained the versatile capabilities of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and how they are used for the holistic development of the country. He said that Dr. Ambedkar’s life was portrayed as if he worked for upliftment of downtrodden people only where as Dr. B. R. Ambedkar is a multifaceted personality with expertise in Economics, Sociology, Anthropology, Law etc. He had a long term telescopic vision about free India. Dr. B. R. Ambedkar suggested Nationalisation of Banks, Nationalisation of Agriculture Land and also Nationalisation of Heavy Industries. He envisioned for Free India not only Political democracy but also Economic and Social Democracy. Dr. Devidas stated that Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was champion of “Right to be Humanâ€. He concluded that Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was a visionary with Finest Brain.
The program was conducted by Dr. K. Sasicoumar Brumot, ARD. Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Y. Venkateshwarlu, ARD. It was well attended by Regional Centre Staff, Students and Study Centre Functionaries.
