The Nagpur Municipal Corporation has on Thursday informed the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court that works on Mehandibagh Railway Under Bridge (RUB) has begun. The civic body has given its permission to remove the water pipe line and drainage line. After shifting of both the lines, works on construction the under bridge would begin.
A plea has been filed before the HC over delay in the construction of the railway under bridge. A HC bench comprising Justice Ravi Deshpande and Justice Shriram Modak is hearing the case. The court had given December 21, 2018 deadline for the completion of under bridge. It had also directed the Nagpur Municipal Corporation to fully cooperate with the railways.
After this, railway had asked the NMC to shift water pipeline and drainage line. The railway had also made a payment of rs 1.86 crore. However, NMC did not start the work on time. This stagnate the project. Even after several reminders, shifting of pipeline and drainage line was not started. As a result, the railway under bridge could not be completed on time.
In the previous hearing, the High Court had lashed out at the NMC for delaying the project. After this, NMC issued order to shift the lines. A plea was filed by Kharipura-Binaki-Mangalwari-Premnagar Niwasi Kruti Samiti over this issue. They stated in the plea that the over bridge constructed on level crossing at Mehandibagh is not used by locals because they had to take a U-Turn to reach their home on using it. Hence, they prefer to use the 13-ft road.
