After taking efforts to save the city’s depleting green cover, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) began the de-choking work of city’s age-old trees that were in danger due to construction of cement roads.
The de-choking exercise was carried out after the issue of chocking of tress along the roadside due to cement road construction was raised by the founder of Green Vigil foundation, Kaustubh Chatterjee. Considering the seriousness of the matter, NMC Commissioner Abhijit Bangar took an urgent meeting of all the zonal commissioners and concerned officers. He ordered all the concerned authorities to de-choke the trees till 23rd May.
According to the information, NMC has started de-chocking tress from the cement construction  that includes fully-grown trees along roads which were concretized under phase I and II of cement concrete road project.
Meanwhile, NMC garden superintendent Sudhir Mate assured that measures will be taken in other areas to avoid restricting the flow of water. While NMC will be creating gaps between the concrete blocks, it will avoid cementing the boundary around the tree in future.
