A review meeting to discuss the preparation of the pre-monsoon period was organized by District Collector, Ashwin Mudgal at District administration office on May 14.
The District Collector has instructed the Public Works Department to inspect and report dangerous buildings and bridges in the district and to take necessary steps for their repairs and maintenance.
Keeping in mind the heavy rainfall which occurred on June 6, 2018 the departments should be prepared if there is an excessive rainfall conditions this year as well. Nodal officers should be nominated by each department for disaster management. The District Collector said that all information including the officer’s name, mobile number should be given to District Disaster Control Cell.
Disaster Management Officer Ankush Gawande briefed the District Disaster Management Cell to tackle any incident during the monsoon through a presentation. In Nagpur, there are 341 villages that are in flood prone conditions.
Mudgal informed that last year, on July 6, 283 mm rainfall that had occurred in just couple of hours wherein the administration was not prepared to handle such situation hence looking forward to the upcoming monsoon season the Collector instructed that all preparations for disaster management should be done with the latest equipment in the event of cloudburst, beforehand.
He instructed, Health Department to stock sufficient medicines in the hospitals and prepares to conduct special health camps. He further instructed Fire and Rescue Department to be equipped with necessary gears required in rescuing people in case of floods.
District Collector, Ashwani Mudgal has asked the District Disaster Management Officers to conduct disaster management drills at flood prone areas. Mudgal also released the Disaster Management Plan 2019 booklet in the presence of other department chiefs. The district control room will be operational from June 1, 2019.
