Carcass of an adult Leopard was found on Thursday by the patrolling staff of South Fulzari beat near East Pench range of PTR, Maharashtra.
The carcass of the big cat was spotted around 5 PM, during patrolling in Pench riverbed in comp. It had puncture wounds and laceration marks on neck and head portion.
According to initial reports, the reason of death seems to be territorial fight, forest officials said. Body parts like teeth, vibrissae, claws, etc. were found to be to be intact and the carcass seemed to be 5-6 days old, they added.
As per NTCA SOP, search operation was carried out in approximately 500m radius around the spot and during search operation; pugmarks of tiger and leopard were observed on nearby trails.
Search for any other carnivore who must have also sustained injuries during the fight is in process and camera traps have been deployed in east pench and west pench area for tracking the animal.
