For the last three days mercury remained static at 46 degree Celsius affecting the normal life badly. Meanwhile, the hottest spell of summer called “Navtapa†will begin from today. During this period, the temperature may rise to 47 degree Celsius. The Met department has sounded red alert for “Navtapaâ€.
The city recorded a maximum temperature of 46 degree Celsius on Friday. However, there was slight drop of 0.2 degree Celsius compared to Thursday but it failed to provide any relief to the people.
Nagpur was the second hottest place in Vidarbha while Chandrapur was on top with 46.6 degree Celsius. On Thursday, Nagpur recorded 46.2 degree Celsius. Earlier, on April 30, 2019, Nagpur had witnessed 46.3 degree Celsius that was the hottest day of the season.
Meanwhile, the Met department stated that the mercury would shoot up in Chandrapur, Brahmapuri, Nagpur, Wardha, Akola, Amravati and Yavatmal district on the first day of Navtapa and heat wave will blow.
The department has also sounded orange alert till May 30. Avoid going out from 12pm to 4.30 pm, if not urgent, wear cotton cloths and keep the body covered. Cover face and head with cotton scarf, medical experts say. Take sufficient water, Nimbu Pani (lemon water), Sharbat, buttermilk to fight the soaring temperature. Take medical advice, if struck by fever.
