An awareness programme on Womens Health was organised by Nagpur Obsteric and Gynaecological Society, (NOGS) recently at Garden of Indraprastha Society, Swawlambi Nagar, Nagpur. Mayor of NMC, Mrs. Nandatai Jichkar graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Presidet of Indraprastha Housing Society Shri Kadu made introductory remarks.
At the out set highlighting the need to hold this outreach session was to update society’s members on preventive and diagnostic help for the scientific solutions for understanding womens health issues in all the phases of her life†said Dr. Priyanka Kamble in her opening welcome speech.
The First lecture was delivered by Dr Kamble on “Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), also known as polycystic ovarian syndrome. PCOS is a common health problem caused by an imbalance of reproductive hormones affects 1 in 10 women of childbearing age.
The hormonal imbalance creates problems in the ovaries. The ovaries make the egg that is released each month as part of a healthy menstrual cycle. PCOS one of the major health issues with obesity, diabetes and infertility. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a set of symptoms due to elevated androgens (male hormones) in females.
Signs and symptoms of PCOS include irregular or no menstrual periods, heavy periods, excess body and facial hair, acne, pelvic pain, difficulty getting pregnant, and patches of thick, darker, velvety skin. It can have link to other health problems Blood Pressure, Anxiety, Depression, Sleep Apnea, Unhealthy cholesterol, endometrial cancer etc.
Second lecture was delivered by Dr. Mangala Ghisad, former Presidet of NOGS on “Diet and Exerciseâ€. These two areas most women are careless and are unaware of nutrition value of the daily food. Overweight, obesisty as well as malnourished are so common these days that awareness is needed right from childhood.
A person is what he eats. Eating for taste budds is a momentary pleasure but has ill effects on health and fitness, said Dr. Ghisad. In a simple rule she advocated to take heavy breakfast, medium lunch and small dinner.
The thali should have 25% carbohydrates, 25% protiens, dairy, 25% Fruits and Vegetables, and less of oils, sweets and fats. Drinking adequate amount of wather is aslo included. Only One type of meal is never advocated.
She further emphasied on exercises, sleep, Yoga. One who exercise, not daily core and kitchen activity, has lots of health benefits. It is heart friendly, controls fats, sugar and cholesterpol,and BP. Promotes strong bones, supple joints, good body posture and muscles strengthening , boosts immunity, fights depression, and negativiity.
Last talk was given by Dr. Kshama Kedar, Secretary, NOGS on Cancers in women and highlighted Ca Cervix, Breast Cancer, Ovarian and Utereine cancers. Some of the reasons are poor hygiene, poverty and illiteracy, smoking, early marriage, multiple sex partners, multiparity, etc.
She asked women to learn self breast examination and inform doctor if any abnormality is noted such as nodule, changes in niples, size or pain. She advised to take HPV vaccines to prevent cervical cancer and asked mothers to give this as a best gift to their daughters. PAP smear test can detect Ca Cervix in early stage addded Dr. Kshama Kedar.
Secretary of Indrprastha Housing Society Mr Milind Kamble proposed the vote of thanks. A high tech Gym was inaugurated by Mayor Nandatai Jichkar in the premises of the garden. Over 75 men and women took benefit of the awareness programme.
