Rajesh VAV won rapid chess crown whereas city’s Sankalp Gupta triumphed in blitz event in the FIDE Rating Chess Tournament at Dr Ambedkar Management Institute hall on Sunday.
The tournament was organised by Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation in association with Nagpur District Chess Association.
In the rapid tournament, Rajesh earned 8.5 points to win the title. Both city’s Srishti Pandey and Indrajeet Mahindrakar earned eight points each but on the basis of tie breaker, Srishti was declared runners-up. City player Pawan Dodeja secured third place. Similarly in the blitz tournament, City’s Sankalp Gupta triumphed with nine points to his credit.
Navalgund Niranjan (8, 55),  Indrajeet Mahindrakar (8, 52.5),WCM Mrudul Dehankar (7.5, 49.5) and Bhagyashree Patil (7.5, 46) achieved second to fifth place respectively. BJP leader Jaiprakash Gupta was the chief guest of prize distribution function.Vivek Kapoor, Amit Gandhare, secretary of Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation Bhushan Shriwas and chief arbiter  Swapnil Bansod were also present on the occasion.
