The Baidyanath Nagpur District Badminton Championship organised by Nagpur District Badminton Association began at the Subedhar Hall here on Thursday.
Baidyanath CMD Suresh Sharma was the chief guest and inaugurated the tourney. MLA Sunil Kedar was the guest of honour. NDBA president Kunda Vijaykar, vice-president Shriram Purohit, joint secretary Bhavana Agre, executive members Madhav Soman, Sneha Faizpurkar and Gurdeep Singh Arora were present on the occasion.
Third seed in the U-15 girls singles Kripi Sajwan defeated Kimaya Bhaskar 15-8, 15-2 to enter the second round. Fourth Ananya Durugkar trounced Vedika Sute 15-1, 15-3 . In another one-sided encounters, Mrunmayee Pande downed Aditi Kunthewar, Mabel Simon dismissed Srushti Sawarkar, while Aditi Dhamankar accounted for Sawanya Agne in straight games.
In the U-13 boys singles first round, Sparsh Kawale surprised Jai Rajesh 15-11, 7-15, 15-11 in an exciting match. Rigved Nimkar thumped Riyan Balsaraf 15-10, 15-11, while Sairaj Nayse got the better of Rubal Gedam 15-6, 15-4 to move up.
The other players to advance in the U-13 boys singles are Aryan Wadegaonkar, Sparsh Nandanwar, Nakul Londhekar and Anirudh Bhat.
Aaryan Lambat edged past Sarang Walke 15-9, 10-15, 15-8 in a thrilling contest. Shreesh Kashyap also have to stretch fully to beat Vaibhav Mithe 16-18, 15-11, 15-12 in the U-19 boys singles first round.
