Aayush Adey, top seed Sairaj Nayse, Aniruddha Bhat and Manit Chandak entered the Under-10 boy semis in Baidyanath Nagpur District Badminton Championship, organized by the Nagpur District Badminton Association, at the Subhedar Hall here on Saturday.
In major upset on the third day, unseeded Aayush Adey surprised Sparsh 21-16, 21-17. Top seed Sairaj Nayse, living up to his reputation got rid of Aarav Thakre 21-9, 21-7 to enter the semis.
Fourth seed Anirudh Bhat toppled Soham Chaudhary also in straight games, while Manit Chandak stopped the brilliant run of Aditya Yaul to complete semifinal line-up.
In the U-10 girls singles, top seed Fizza Akbani, second seed Anvee Wajgi, Poorva Mohite and Swasti Thakre entered the semifinals.
In the U-17 girls singles second round, third seed Bhargavi Rambhad defeated Taniya Patwardhan 17-15, 15-9. Experienced Chaitali Nayse downed Srushti Kane 16-14, 15-11 to reach the third round, while fourth seed Ananya Durugkar got the better of Aastha Warkad. Top two seeds Nikkita Joseph and Pinak Rokde also moved up quite easily.
Earlier, unseeded Nehal Gosavi shocked fourth seed Ananya Durugkar 15-12, 15-10 in the U-15 girls singles. However, other seeded players top seed Aasavari Khandekar, second seed Pinak Rokde and third seed Kripi Sajwani advanced with ease.
