The executive director of Hockey India (HI) RK Shrivastava has filed a plea in the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court seeking directives to term one of the selection committees of Vidarbha Hockey Association (VHA) as legal.
Two selection panels are active in Vidarbha Hockey Association, while one was led by Gavai faction, the other was led by Joshi faction.
Earlier, the selection panel led by Vivek Siria was considered as valid. However the committed was abolished on August 25, 2018 and a new committee was constituted, which was in dispute right from the very first day.
The Hockey India is now confused on which committee be declared valid. The plea was filed in the high court ahead of the Sub Junior National Hockey Championship (B Division) in Bilaspur from June 17 to June 29. Both old and new selection committees have selected their own teams and sent the list of players to the Hockey India for participation in the sub junior national tournament.
Both the committees have sent e-mails to the Hockey India on May 19 and May 20 with the details of their respective teams and a formal request to permit them to take part in the sub-junior national tournament.
To permit one of these teams, Hockey India has sought instructions from the high court on which team should be permitted to participate in the tournament.
