Greatest threat for nature and the near future are Envy, Greed and Selfishness. Till the day this is controlled by all the eyewitnesses, we will be in an eleventh hour, said Dr. J.S Pandey, Chief Scientist and Science Secretary, Head of Climate Change and Skilling Divisions. Pandey has been studying this subject for years and even has more than 373 citations for his almost 26 research material.
Focusing on the climatic condition of our nation, he suggested to think of it on a national and geographical levels rather paying attention to what other countries are busy doing or where they stand. This is very important as they have a totally different climatic condition as well as population growth and we have our own separate problems.
People here feel plantation is going to resolve problems of global warming, when actually global warming is not just about plants, but has many aspects. The main thing to worry right at this moment is about oxygen depletion, as there are other harmful gases being emitted on a much larger scale by factories, cars and even the perfumes and furniture we use in our home. These gases are covering the area, leaving no plain sight for oxygen, said Pandey.
Suggesting, for this we have to keep control on the exploitation of resources and have a Gandhian approach towards our lifestyle, as it takes millions of years to form a drop of petrol but if you see the usage of it, that should warn you right away.
Pandey being a scientist says that the promoters of science like me should first adopt such practices and be a spiritual guide to the people, only after which the layman will start following our footsteps.
No one is asking to be a total replica of Gandhi but there are alternatives and modernized way of adapting it, be as natural as you can, be as close to nature as much possible. Study the nature and observe that the study of trees is similar to electronic engineering, the trees behaves as amplifiers, as they are the producers or let’s say amplifies their population, they even help you get charged up giving you shade or providing you food and even act as resistance towards natural calamities like floods.
While talking about the oxygen depletion, he explained that the agriculture itself is an intervention in the elasticity of nature but on a negligible level and the large-scale industries have totally disturbed the cycle and the way the nature is supposed to act.
One might live for days without food, and for hours without water but no one in the whole animal kingdom can live without oxygen for even a minute, Pandey added.
