Doctors all over India are seen protesting against a life-threatening incident that happened with the doctors and interns in Kolkata. The same can be seen in Orange city where doctors from the Government Medical College (GMC) agitated by not going on work from 8 am to 5 pm today whereas the doctors of Indian Medical Association (IMA) are observing the day by wearing a black ribbon on their arm as a mark of protest.
The incident took place on June 11 at Kolkata medical college, where a patient of age 85 was admitted with cardiac issues by his grandson. The patient unfortunately, despite of availing all the facilities, collapsed within 50 min after the admission. As per reports, the patient was also suffering from serious respiratory distress and severe heart pain during the admission itself.
The death of patient turned the relatives ferocious. Almost after an hour of the demise, the relatives of the patient came back with a mob of at least 200 people, carrying bamboo sticks, heavy bricks and crop cutters and trashed the interns and doctors of the hospital. In the attack, a resident doctor, Dr Paribaha Mukherjee received grievous head injury and is fighting a battle for his life.
Doctors protesting over the incident, have a list of demands including immediate action against the people and a National law against hospital violence. From having adequate security force, for the protection of doctors, strict implementation for passer-by system and many other security measures are the demands of the doctors.
