World Donor Day was celebrated at Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Centre, Nagpur. Member of Maharashtra State Blood Transfusion Council and Director of Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Centre Dr. Vinky Rughwani, Dr. Jayprakash, and other guests were present on the dais. The programme began with the lightning of the traditional lamp. Many patients of Thalassemia and Sickle Cell disease along with their parents and other people participated in the program.
During his speech, Dr. Vinky Rughwani spoke about the importance of blood donation. He said in our country the numbers of donors are much less than what we require. There is less than one percent of people who are donating blood in our country. There are many countries in the world where the number of donors is almost 4%. He said for Thalassaemia and Sickle Cell patients who need regular blood transfusion blood is a lifeline. He thanked the donors for helping these needy patients. He also gave information that with each unit of blood donation three patients can be helped by Packed Red Cells, Platelets, and Plasma. Other people also expressed their views on the occasion.
Dr. Jayprakash conducted the program and proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. Asha, Dr. Usha, Vicky Datre, Rahul and Sandeep worked hard for the success of the program.
