First fortnight of June is about to end yet the wait for first rains of monsoon hasn’t come to an end. However, monsoon showers did start some days back but, the recent severe cyclonic storm Vayu had disrupted the entire timing of rains associated with upcoming monsoon.
Usually, rainfall take place in the middle of June. But, the entire Vidarbha is still in a dry condition. Currently, the temperature has gone up to 3 to 5 degrees from the normal, in all districts of Vidarbha. This is the reason why heat is still troubling people.
As per statistics, the temperature has decreased but in reality, the temperature is below 40 degrees in the month of June. Temperature is more than 40 degrees. On Friday, Chandrapur had the highest temperature with 44.6 degrees. Apart from this, mercury settled for 44.6 degrees at Brahmapuri, Gadchiroli at 44.2 degrees, Wardha at 43, Akola at 42.2, Amravati at 40.8, Yavatmal at 40.5, Washim at 40, Buldhana at 39 degrees celsius.
According to experts, monsoon will be late in Nagpur and the entire Vidarbha. It is estimated that the residents of Nagpur might have to wait till June 25 to experience monsoon rains.
The clouds were seen quite dark and intense before the arrival of Vayu but, the conditions changed after that. Whatever little rain clouds are left, don’t seem to carry the amount of humidity required for raining.
Meanwhile, east Nagpur along with other areas in the city experienced rainfall after strong winds on Friday. But, this rainfall resulted in increasing humidity. Usually, June 10 is the right date for monsoon to be seen in Nagpur but this year, it was delayed by 8 days in Southern India itself. After that, cyclone Vayu affected the rainfalls.
Amidst all this, the monsoon which was supposed to be active in Nagpur by June 20, there are strong chances that it will be delayed in the city. Vayu has affected the level of humidity in clouds. This is the reason why the temperature is high in Nagpur as compared to the normal. On Friday, the temperature recorded was three degrees more than the normal temperature; 43 and 30.5 degree celsius in day and night respectively.
