Four-seed Yashraj Kadam stunned second seed Aaryaveer Deshmukh in a thrilling final to emerge U-13 boys champion in the first Maharashtra sub-junior state selection badminton tournament 2019 organised by Nagpur District Badminton Association at Subhedar Hall on Saturday.
Raksha Kandasamy, Yash Sinha, Darshita Rajguru too emerged champions in their respective categories. Aaryaveer Deshmukh-Ajinkya Gadekar and Shravani Walekar-Taarini Suri won doubles title in boys and girls category respectively.
Yash was made to sweat hard by Deshmukh. Both kept their serves. However, it was a rare error from the second seed that handed first game to Kadam. The second game too was full of thrill and excitement. Kadam however, kept his nerves in the tie-breaker to clinch the final and title 21-19 24-22.
Nagpur’s Fizza Akbani went down fighting against Nashik’s Darshita Rajguru in girls U-10 final while in doubles Nagpur’s Krisha Soni and her partner Kunjal Mandlik lost to Shravani Walekar and Taarini Suri.
The thrilling finals were followed by prize distribution ceremony. Dr.Pinak Dhande, MD of Dhande Hospital), Mangesh Kashikar secretary events, Maharashtra Badminton Association & secretary Nagpur District Badminton Association, Kundatai Vijaykar, president Nagpur District Badminton Association, Shriram Purohit, senior vice-president Nagpur District Badminton Association, Bhavna Agre, joint secretary Nagpur District Badminton Association, Madhav Soman, executive members of Nagpur District Badminton Association Gurudeep Singh Arora and Thaukar were present.
