Passengers of Kerala Express from Thiruvananthapuram to New Delhi created ruckus at the Nagpur railway station over faulty air-conditioner of B-6 coach. The train arrived on platform number 1 of the Nagpur railway station at around 8.30 am. Passengers did not allow the train to depart on its scheduled time and expressed their anger over faulty air-conditioner. They said, the air conditioner of B-6 compartment was not working and despite several complaints to the attendants no measure was taken to fix the snag.
The train reached Nagpur half hour late from its scheduled time. When it was about to department passengers pulled the chain to stop the train. When enquired they informed the officials on board the train about the problem. Finally, a team of engineers were called, which fixed the glitch and started air-conditioner. The train then departed from Nagpur railway station at 9.20 pm nearly an hour late from its scheduled departure.
According to passengers, railways has increased the fare of trains in the last few years but the facilities have not been improved accordingly. The air-conditioner of the train was not working despite hot and humid atmosphere outside. Complaints were lodged with the attendants but no action was taken, forcing them to stop the train at Nagpur railway station.
It is pertinent to note here that this was not the first time when passengers had to fight for their rights. In the past too, passengers had stopped train at Nagpur railway station over similar issues, however, it seems that railways has not learnt any lesson from the previous instances.
