City athlete Jayana Kolhe clinched first medal for the district in 20,000 m walking on the last day of 69th Maharashtra State Senior Athletics Championship at Mumbai Wednesday.
Navmaharashtra Krida Mandal, athlete Jayana who won silver medal has been trained under the guidance of former international athlete Vaishali Chatare. Kolhapur’s Rutuja Bhamangole won the event by just 16 seconds. She clocked 2.28:17 hours whereas Jayana achieved the second place with a timing 2.38:33 seconds. Washim’s Sakshi Ghule emerged second runners-up with a timing 2.44:20 hours. Nagpur’s Shruti Sakhare finished fourth.
Another athlete Asmita Uvare won bronze medals in long jump and triple jump events. She jumped 5.11 metre to secure bronze medal. Mumbai’s Akshata S clinched gold medal whereas Pragati Sanghpal of Kolhapur bagged silver. In triple jump, Asmita jumped 10.49 metres to won another bronze medal. Kolhapur’s Pragati Sanghpal emerged winner whereas Pune’s Pournima Marne finished runners-up.
Nagpur district women relay team won bronze medal with a timing 4.27.18 seconds. Thane district team emerged winner with a timing 3.59: 30 seconds. Pune team won silver medal with a timing 4.00.20 seconds.
The Nagpur team was represented by Sakshi Shende, Ruth Charles (Navmaharashtra), Yamini Thakre (City Police) and Bhargavi Meshram (Krida Prabodhini).
Along with relay bronze Yamini also secured bronze in 1500 m race. In men’s 10,000 m race Nagraj.
