Monsoon has hit the city and this time it is going hit it hard. Observing the situations from previous year, city has now built a trap for its own. The cement roads were seen already flooded by the time first batch of rain ended up. Most of the newly constructed roads were either clogged up or had a heavy flow of water running towards a drainage system. All of such situations should be an eye opener for people in the city, as Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has already come up with few efforts to save tons of water.
During a recent meeting done by officers of NMC, there are plans on rain water on which the in charge from each zone are investing Rs. 5 crores in total for the betterment of city. The offices, schools and gardens are to be installed with septic tanks and other rain water harvesting facilities. This has come up after a study tour held by the Deputy Mayor, Deepraj Pardikar done last year. The tour was of Bengaluru and aimed to adapt such reuses of natural resources, implemented by their civic authority.
Similarly a Chennai apartment collected near about 25,000 litre of water in a span of just an hour, so for the people to start acting on this issue it is a great example and a push to start adapting these habits.
Nagpur nearly was about to face water scarcity this year for which this has to be done with a serious note. The city is also going to lose up the ground water rate as the cement will restrict the flow and deposition of water. It is high time to learn and even more to implement.
